Imaging Resource did an exclusive interview with Group Executive at Canon Inc. to discuss the future of mirrorless and DSLR technology.
The interview clarifies a lot of speculations around the full frame mirrorless and video technology in DSLR’s. Here are a few key insights;
"We are simultaneously developing new products in the DSLR family, EOS R series and EOS M series. The most important thing for us is to carefully listen to what customers want and make decisions accordingly".
Canon feels that it would wait and see the customer requirement and then decide if they want to shift more funds from DSLR to mirrorless development.
"Among the EF lens lineup, F2.8 L series zoom lenses are the best-selling models to pros and advanced amateurs. We would like to offer F2.8 L-series zoom lenses in the RF lens lineup as well, with improvements we could not have achieved with the EF mount".
They are working on new concept RF lens, something which has never been seen in the market. According to them, all these lenses will take advantage of design flexibility provided by RF mount.
"8K video capable camera is already in our EOS R-series roadmap. And we are not just looking at video from a camera perspective, we are also working on how to make RF lenses better for video capture as well".
It’s a huge news to know that Canon is on its way to introduce 8K video in its EOS R-series. But knowing how private and confidential they keep the details, they have not mentioned any particular date when we can expect the camera.
